Communications Manager (Nine Month Contract)

Work description

The Communications Manager contributes to the offering of the Africa Support Services Directorate in enabling regional ministry activities by promoting what God is doing through TWR Africa using multi-media marketing platforms and communication tools.

The Communications Manager assists the development and implements strategy for all external communications, to consistently articulate TWR Africa Region’s mission.

The Communications Manager supports the International Director: Regional Support Services in implementing internal communications.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

• National Diploma in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations

EXPERIENCE

• Skilled marketing, public relations or communications with minimum five years’ experience •

Proficiency in all aspects of media relations and a demonstrated familiarity with non-profit communications

• Experience in project management, particularly of publication

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES STRATEGY

• In collaboration with the International Director: Regional Support Services, updates the overarching organisational external communications strategy framework

• Develops specific media strategies including for the support of fundraising

• In consultation with the Africa leadership team and collaboration with other relevant functions: develops, implements, and evaluates the annual communications plan.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

• Develops an external media strategy • Co-ordinates organisational and project spokespersons in their engagement with external media

• Produces talking points and statements for dissemination to media and public

• Writes, distributes, and follows up on press releases and event calendar listings

• Oversees the handling of media during TWR Africa Region fundraising events

• Oversees ongoing market research and data analysis initiatives

• Ensures that the final sign off of all media statements, releases, publications or any other communication materials is done by the publisher

PUBLICATIONS

• Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, ministry reports, brochures and annual reports.

• Retrieves incoming media inquiries and assembles relevant background materials

• Manages the database processes and ensures maintenance of the data warehouse

• Oversees the production of content of donor newsletters

• Manages the production of all external materials and publications

• Oversees the writing, editing and distribution of all journalistic articles

• Ensures that policy with respect to proofreading and release of communications is followed

VIDEOGRAPHY AND PHOTOGRAPHY

• Oversees the shooting and recording of video materials

• Ensure video footage collected meets production standards

• Oversees the editing of video footage • Oversees the maintenance of video production and administrative records

• Ensures Intellectual Property Rights [IPR] are ensured

WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA

• Oversees content and calendar for email newsletters, website, and social media platforms • Leads the generation of online content that engages audience segments to measurable action.

• Ensures communications vehicles are put in place so as to create momentum and awareness

• Assesses the effectiveness of communications activities

• Coordinates platform maintenance - ensures that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) are posted regularly

• Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time

STAFF MANAGEMENT

• Provides guidance and direction to reporting staff, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance

• Manages staff leave within department • Performs annual performance reviews for staff in the Department

• Maintains and ensures an environment of healthy staff relations and development

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

• Develops and manages a department budget using sound financial management and budgeting skills

• Monitors income and expenditure in relation to departmental budget
